December 1, 1988: first departure for Papua New Guinea

On December 1, 1988, sr. Silvana Lobo and sr. Elizabeth Joseph left Bombay to reach the new mission in Papua New Guinea. Here’s what they write about those first moments in the new land:

Our trip and our first missionary experience were truly exciting. We left Bombay on December 1st and arrived on the 4th in Alotau, where the Bishop’s residence is. Sr. Benedetta, an Australian nun who works at the Bishopric, was waiting for us.
After two days with her we left for Goodenough, the island on which our mission, Wataluma, is located, and where we arrived on the eve of the feast of the Immaculate Conception, warmly welcomed by the Bishop himself, Monsignor Charles Moore and by Father Cesare Bonivento, PIME…
