donne palestinesi che pregano

On the occasion of International Women’s Day we propose an initiative promoted by Christian women of different denominations, Catholic, Orthodox, Methodist, Waldensian, Lutheran… who gather every year on the first Friday of March to pray and promote equality and justice for all women. It is the World Day of Prayer (WYP) (link to website: https://www.giornatamondialedipreghiera.it/) that began in 1927, but its roots go back to the mid-19th century.

The prayer is prepared each year by women from a different country. Christian women from the chosen country prepare a liturgy that aims to make people aware of the difficult and disadvantaged situations in their country. This year it is the turn of the Palestinian women who have chosen the title: “Please… bear with one another in love” (Eph 4:1-7).

The Christian women of Palestine invite us to connect with the land of Jesus, where he was born, where he preached, where he died, and where our common faith begins. Although Palestinian women live in a conflict zone where there is no certainty, no security for their future, they send us a message of hope: they are there, they want to share their optimism with us. The theme ‘Please… bear with one another in love’ seems to have been written especially for these women, who never cease to bear witness to the love of Jesus Christ.

Let us also accompany these and other courageous women around the world who fight for human dignity, suffer when life is trampled underfoot, and are signs of love and unwavering hope.
